Information We Collect

Browsing without an Account

The Service is free to browse. Most of the content, including the solutions to many questions, can be read without registering or signing in, and we do not ask you for any Personal Data in order to read it.

Information you provide when you create an Account

The solutions to some questions are Member Content, which is available only to signed-in members. Creating an Account is free and optional. It is needed only to read Member Content. When you create an Account, we collect:

  • your name and email address
  • your password, which is stored only as a one-way cryptographic hash and never in readable form
  • the date your Account was created and the time you last signed in, and
  • the date and time at which you accepted our Terms & Conditions and this Privacy Policy, which you must do before you can use an Account.

If we create an Account for you, we hold only the name and email address given to us, and we send a single-use sign-up link to that email address. The link lets you review and accept our Terms & Conditions and this Privacy Policy and choose your own password. It expires after a limited time, and we store only a hashed form of it. The Account cannot be used until you complete this step.

If you ask to reset your password, we send a single-use link to your email address. The link expires after a limited time, and we store only a hashed form of it.

We do not ask for your phone number or postal address, and we do not collect payment information because we do not charge for access, including for an Account.

If you choose to contact us by email, we will hold the contents of your message and your email address for as long as is needed to deal with your query.

Last visited page, with your consent

If you accept it in the consent banner, we remember the last content page you opened on the Website (an exam, subject, chapter or question page), so that the home page can offer a link straight back to it. We store the address of that page and a short plain-text label for it, such as the chapter and subject name. If you do not accept, or later withdraw your consent, nothing is remembered. See Your Consent to Optional Storage below.

Usage Data

Usage Data is collected automatically when you use the Service.

Usage Data may include information such as your Device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, referring pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

When you access the Service by or through a mobile device, we may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile internet browser you use, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

Security and abuse-prevention data

To keep the Service available and to protect our content, we record request information, such as IP address, browser user agent and request rate, in order to identify and block automated scraping, whole-site copying tools and abusive request volumes. This information is used for security purposes and is not used to build a profile of you.

Our administration area is restricted to authorised staff. Failed attempts to sign in to that area, to sign in to an Account, or to create an Account are recorded, in a form that does not store the plain IP address, for the sole purpose of limiting repeated attempts.

Member Accounts

  • Signing up is optional. Questions whose solutions are freely available can be read in full without an Account. For questions marked as requiring sign-in, the solution, and any answer options, hints and images held back with it, are shown only once you sign in.
  • Your Account is private. Your name and email address are not shown to other users of the Service.
  • We use your email address only to operate your Account, for example to send a password reset link you have asked for, and to send you notices about the Service, such as changes to our Terms & Conditions or this Privacy Policy. We do not currently send marketing email; if we do in future, you will be able to opt out of it at any time.
  • Your answer to the consent banner is recorded on your Account together with the date and time you gave it. While you are signed in, that answer applies on every device you use. If you accept, the last content page you visited is also stored on your Account so that it is available on your other devices.
  • You can sign out at any time. You can ask us to correct your details by writing to us at the address in the Contact Us section.
  • You can deactivate your Account at any time from your Account page. A deactivated Account cannot be signed in to, cannot receive password reset links and no longer gives access to Member Content. Its email address cannot be used to create a new Account. A deactivated Account can be reactivated only by us, at our sole discretion, on a request sent from the same email address.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use Cookies, local storage and similar technologies to operate the Service and to remember certain preferences. Cookies can be "Persistent" or "Session" Cookies. Persistent Cookies remain on your personal computer or mobile device when you go offline, while Session Cookies are deleted as soon as you close your web browser.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all Cookies or to indicate when a Cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept Cookies, some parts of the Service may not work as intended.

We use the following categories:

  • Necessary / Essential Cookies

Type: Session Cookies. Administered by: Us

Purpose: These are essential to provide you with the Service, to keep you signed in to your Account while you use the Website, and to secure forms against cross-site request forgery. Without these, the Service cannot be provided correctly, and you will not be able to sign in to read Member Content. The session ends when you close your browser or sign out, and a signed-in session also ends after a period of inactivity.

  • Consent Cookie (ec_consent)

Type: Persistent Cookie, kept for 12 months. Administered by: Us

Purpose: To remember whether you accepted or declined optional storage in the consent banner, so that we do not ask you on every visit. It holds only the word "accepted" or "declined". Because it records your choice, it is necessary and is set whichever answer you give.

  • Functionality Cookie: last visited page (ec_last_visit)

Type: Persistent Cookie, kept for 12 months from your most recent visit to a content page. Administered by: Us. Set only with your consent.

Purpose: To remember the last exam, subject, chapter or question page you opened, so that the home page can offer a link back to it. It holds the address of that page and a short label for it. It is deleted when you decline or withdraw consent. If you share a Device or browser, others using it may see this link on the home page, including after you sign out.

  • Functionality storage

Type: Browser local storage. Administered by: Us

Purpose: To remember choices you make while using the Website, such as whether you prefer the light or dark theme, so that you do not have to set your preference on every visit. This is stored on your own Device and is not transmitted to us.

  • Advertising Cookies

Type: Persistent Cookies. Administered by: Third parties

Purpose: To serve and measure advertisements. See the Advertising section below.

Advertising

The Service is supported by advertising. We may display advertisements served by Google, including through Google AdSense, and by other advertising partners.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use Cookies to serve advertisements based on your prior visits to this Website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising Cookies enables it and its partners to serve advertisements to you based on your visits to this Website and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of Cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
  • We do not receive your Personal Data from our advertising partners, and we do not provide them with information that identifies you personally.

Advertising partners act as independent controllers of the data they collect. Their handling of that data is governed by their own privacy policies, not by this one.

How We Use Information

The Company may use the information described above for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain the Service, including to monitor its usage and availability.
  • To manage your Account: to create and maintain your Account, to let you sign in to read Member Content, and to help you recover access to it.
  • To send service emails: such as password reset and sign-up links, and notices about the Service and changes to our terms and policies. We do not currently send marketing email.
  • To secure the Service: to detect, prevent and address technical issues, automated scraping, unauthorised copying of content and other abuse.
  • To respond to your requests: to attend to and manage any query, correction or copyright notice you send us.
  • To improve the Service: data analysis, identifying which topics and questions are most used, and evaluating and improving our content and its presentation.
  • To run a search you ask for: the text you search for, or the text read from an image on your Device, is used only to return matching problems at that moment and is then discarded. It is never stored or used for any other purpose. See Search and Image Search: Nothing Is Stored.
  • To remember your place: where you have consented, to remember the last content page you visited and offer a link back to it from the home page.
  • To display advertising that funds the free availability of the Service.
  • To comply with law: to meet our legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

We use your information only for the purposes listed above.

We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell your Personal Data, and we never will. This applies to everyone who uses the Service, with or without an Account.

  • We do not sell, rent, lease, trade or otherwise make available your name, email address, Account details, Usage Data or any other Personal Data to any third party in return for money or any other benefit.
  • We do not give or sell your Personal Data to advertisers, data brokers, marketing companies, coaching institutes or any other organisation for their own use.
  • Your information is shared only in the limited situations described in the Sharing of Information and Disclosure of Data sections, such as with Service Providers who work on our behalf and may not use it for any other purpose, or where the law requires it.
  • This commitment continues to apply to your information after your Account is deactivated.

Sharing of Information

We may share information in the following situations:

  • With Service Providers: we may share information with Service Providers such as our hosting and email delivery providers, and with analytics and advertising providers, so that they can perform their services for us. Your Account details are not shared with advertising partners.
  • For business transfers: we may share or transfer information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of Company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
  • With your consent: we may disclose information for any other purpose with your consent.

Accounts are private and the Service has no public profiles or public posting features, so your information is not shared with other users of the Service.

Retention of Data

The Company will retain your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your Personal Data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies.

Account information is kept for as long as your Account exists, including while it is deactivated, so that it can be reactivated on your request and so that its email address is not reused. Deactivating your Account does not delete these details, and they are never sold. Password reset links expire after a short time and cannot be used again, and any that are outstanding are cancelled when an Account is deactivated.

The last visited page is overwritten each time you open another content page. The cookie that holds it expires 12 months after your most recent visit to a content page, and both the cookie and any copy on your Account are deleted as soon as you decline or withdraw consent. The copy on an Account is otherwise kept for as long as the Account exists. Your recorded answer to the consent banner is kept with your Account, so that we can show when and how you gave or withdrew consent.

Usage Data and security logs are generally retained for a shorter period, except where the data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of the Service, or where we are legally obliged to retain it for longer.

Transfer of Data

Your information may be processed at our operating locations and at the locations of the Service Providers we use. This means the information may be transferred to, and maintained on, computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction, where the data protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction.

Your continued use of the Service following your reading of this Privacy Policy represents your agreement to that transfer.

The Company will take reasonable steps to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy wherever it is processed.

Your Rights and Choices

Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to confirm what Personal Data we hold about you, to correct it if it is inaccurate, or to delete it. If you have not created an Account, in most cases the only information we hold that relates to you is Usage Data and security log data, which is not ordinarily linked to an identified individual.

  • If you have an Account, you can see your name and email address, change your password and deactivate your Account on your Account page, and you can ask us to correct your details or to reactivate a deactivated Account.
  • You can give, change or withdraw your consent to optional storage at any time on the Cookie Settings page.
  • You can control Cookies and local storage through your browser settings, and clear them at any time.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising using the links in the Advertising section above.
  • You can write to us at the address in the Contact Us section to make any other request.

Please note that we may need to retain certain information where we have a legal obligation or other lawful basis to do so.

Disclosure of Data

Business Transactions

If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, your Personal Data may be transferred as part of that transaction. Where required by law, we will provide notice before your Personal Data becomes subject to a different privacy policy. The commitment in the We Do Not Sell Your Data section applies to any such transfer: your data will not be sold on its own.

Law Enforcement

Under certain circumstances, the Company may be required to disclose your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency).

Other Legal Requirements

The Company may disclose your Personal Data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation
  • Protect and defend the rights or property of the Company
  • Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service
  • Protect the personal safety of users of the Service or the public
  • Protect against legal liability

Security

The security of your Personal Data is important to us. We serve the Service over HTTPS where available, apply security headers and a content security policy, and restrict administrative access. Account passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, signed-in sessions expire, and repeated failed sign-in attempts are limited. Please keep your password to yourself and choose one that you do not use elsewhere. Nevertheless, remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Children's Privacy

The Service is educational material intended for students, and it may be used by children. An Account is not needed to browse the Service. Anyone under the age of 13 must not create an Account without the consent of a parent or guardian, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Data from anyone under the age of 13 without such consent.

If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from anyone under the age of 13 without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

Where we need to rely on consent as a legal basis for processing and your country requires consent from a parent, we may require your parent's consent before we collect and use that information.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date at the top.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page, and your continued use of the Service after that constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. Where the law requires your consent to a change, we will ask for it.

This Privacy Policy forms part of, and is subject to, our Terms & Conditions, including their provisions on limitation of liability, governing law and dispute resolution.

Grievances

If you have a grievance about how we collect, use, store or share your information, or about your Account, please write to us at contact@ecatalysts.in. The categories of grievances we entertain, how to submit one, and the procedure for reporting copyright violations and plagiarism are set out in the Grievances section of our Terms & Conditions.
